Abstract

In Chapter 15 , Jaakko Suominen, Niklas Nylund, and Markku Reunanen explore game cultural heritage and the work surrounding it. By game cultural heritage work, they refer to all the activities aimed at preserving games and gaming cultures, researching their history and publicly presenting them to various audiences. The authors ask which factors, approaches, and areas researchers have recently highlighted as central to game cultural heritage work and, in contrast, which areas have been less explored. They relate discussions about game cultural heritage to broader debates on cultural heritage and heritage communities.
