Abstract

Cardiovascular disease, the number one killer worldwide, affects men and women differently. This chapter explores how sex modifies the effect of subcellular information carriers—sex hormones, the transcriptome, the epigenome, and the genome—on cardiovascular traits and outcomes. The emphasis will be on human studies, particularly those that report sex-specific associations between the epigenome and the cardiovascular system.
