SummaryThis project examines the impact of individual speaking style and cross-linguistic differences on spoken second language. The project focuses specifically on the fluency of Swedish-speaking university students in their first language and its impact on their second-language fluency. This project is a continuation of the Multifluency project, which investigated variation in fluency among Swedish- and Finnish-speaking speakers across different languages. In the first phase, data were collected and analyzed using speech samples. In the second part, additional speech samples will be collected, with a focus on perceived fluency. The aim is to investigate how a first-language speech sample influences the rater’s performance when assessing a foreign-language speech sample. The results will benefit both the teaching and assessment of Swedish and Swedish-speaking learners’ foreign-language learning.
