Annika is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Accounting and Finance at Turku School of Economics, currently based in Sundsvall, Sweden.

Annika holds a Master of Science in Engineering specializing in Industrial Engineering and Management, and a PhD in Information Systems. In January 2024, she defended her doctoral thesis titled "Unraveling the Socio-Technical Tensions of Performance Measurement in Public Welfare Organizations". Her research delves into how the design of performance measurement systems contributes to tensions within public welfare organizations. The study highlights the need for designers, often guided by technical perspectives, to give greater consideration to the contextual factors and values ​​​​inherent in public welfare organizations. The thesis reflects a self-reflective exploration of design processes in technical measurement systems.

Currently, Annika is part of an international research project funded by the Research Council of Finland (2022–2026), led by Associate Professor Jan Pfister. The project aims to introduce a new prosocial paradigm in performance management theory and practice. She focus specifically on prosociallity in academic environments.

Annika has extensive experience teaching in the Industrial Engineering and Management program at Mid Sweden University. She has supervised and examined bachelor’s and master’s level theses, as well as taught courses on economic systems analysis, logistics, information systems, and introductory industrial economics, among others. At the Turku School of Economics, she has managed master-level exercises in qualitative research methods and supervised master’s theses.
