Global Virtual Teams, learning, boundary spanning
The research project embarks on better understanding of Global Virtual Teams with special emphasis on how such teams’ members develop new knowledge and how this knowledge creates team level organizational knowledge over time. Global Virtual teams are a fast growing new way of organizing especially professional project-based work in multinational organizations, where geographically dispersed members integrate their knowledge and contribute to international projects complicated by lacking face-to-face meetings, differences in individuals work contexts and time zones. While my research is focusing on the learning in GVTs’ trajectory it is part of a larger research program at the University of Turku, interested in different aspects of work organization and how human agency forms organizational systems and processes, with several doctoral research projects and masters theses projects focused on some of the many novel aspects of this increasingly important form for organizing multinational activity.
