Tiivistelmä

This chapter argues that Lucretius’ philosophy is related to certain
theories recently developed in the philosophy of mind. I claim that the
way of thinking that is based on these theories, referred to here as the
Body-Environment Approach, finds a prototype in Lucretius’ philosophy
and, reciprocally, that the study of Lucretius can benefit from the
application of this approach. Because these claims are related to
Lucretius’ views on senses, perception, mind, and gods, and to the
background of De rerum natura, these topics will be examined in detail here.
