The article makes an overview of the various ways in which the 1950s in referred to, dierectly or indirectly, in films and televsion work by David Lynch. The key argument is that the 1950s is a recurring motif in his works, in which the era of the "long 1950s" serves as a cultural reference point, alluding to (lost) innocence and a period in which darker aspects of conformity and decency were kept behind a respectable facade. Music, in particular, carries strong implications of artificiality and perversion.
