Abstract

This paper approaches disagreement from a lexical and argumentative perspective. I first
give a brief presentation of Galatanu’s model, the Semantics of Argumentative
Possibilities. Then I examine disagreement by identifying the argumentative orientations
that are manifest in discourse. Finally, based on the illustrations, I propose
a list of semantic mechanisms inherent to disagreement. The illustrations are
drawn from an online participatory consultation on issues related to bioethics.
