Abstract

The treatment of femoral neck fractures is primarily surgical. Options for surgical
treatment are internal fixation and arthroplasty. Recently, a new internal fixation
method has been developed: the Femoral Neck System (FNS). This retrospective
study investigated short-term results of femoral neck fractures treated with FNS
in Turku University Hospital between January 1st 2019 and February 2nd 2020.
The minimum follow-up time was 6 months. The operations were performed
on 35 patients of which 24 had undisplaced femoral neck fracture and 11 had
displaced fracture. During the follow-up 6/34 (18 %) suffered some complication
including nonunion, avascular necrosis and acetabular penetration. Four
of these six patients (12 %) underwent re-operation during the follow-up, three
(9 %) of them had initially an undisplaced fractures and one (3 %) of them had
a displaced fracture.
