Abstract

This chapter explores the interconnected development of trade policy and international business. Trade policy has developed from the creation of the multilateral governance system to the increasing influence of sustainable development, digitalization, and security. At the same time, the ways of conducting international business have evolved from the rise of multinational companies to global value chains binding together highly specialised companies. By highlighting some of the key developments and related challenges, this chapter provides multiple perspectives to explore the possible future developments of the dynamics of trade policy and international business environment. The chapter highlights ongoing and expected changes in international business environment and their interconnections with geoeconomic developments.
