In the digital era, QR codes have become a popular method to transfer data contactlessly between applications. They are employed in many use cases, such as logging in and making payments, that require transferred data to be secured. This paper reviews the existing literature on the security of QR codes, discussing the most common attack scenarios and solutions to prevent or mitigate them. Building on the earlier research on this topic, we also present a multi-layered solution to enhance the security of QR codes.
