This year, the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) were held in Belém in Eastern Amazonia, Brazil, during 10—21 November. 10 years after the Paris Agreement, COP30 attendees continue to disagree on the level of emergency climate change, and once again fails at securing more ambitious fossil fuel agreement.
At COP30, 195 Parties adopted the Belém Package, addressing issues like just transitions, adaptation finance, trade, technology, among other issues; and concluded the Baku Adaptation Roadmap, which approves and establishes the work plan for 2026—2028.
A few weeks COP30, between 14 and 17 October 2025 the Nordic-Brazilian COP30 pre-event was held in Manaus, in central Amazonia, about 1,300 km from Belém. The event, entitled “Bridging knowledges for science with impact in the Amazon — Nordic-Brazilian dialogue towards and beyond COP-30” brought together 80 researchers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Brazil and Colombia to discuss responsible, inclusive and impactful research and innovation in the Amazon region.
