The Finnish Bryophyte Expert Group organized a citizen science project to gather observations of Splachnum species in 2024‒2025. Our main focus was on the Critically Endangered Splachnum melanocaulon but we also encouraged people to send information on the five more common Splachnum species growing in Finland. Observations were asked to be delivered with iNaturalist and My Notebook apps, which allow all the observations to be publicly available in Finnish Biodiversity Info Facility (laji.fi). During these two years we received 371 species observations from 258 field sites. Geographically the observations concentrated mostly in Lapland and Kuusamo areas, but we also received many observations from central and southern parts of the country. All the six species were detected, including six observations of Splachnum melanocaulon from Lapland, northern Finland. The details of the observations of each species are discussed in this paper. We conclude that Splachnum melanocaulon is present but rare in the country. The other Splachnum species seem to have a stable population in northern Finland, but in southern and central parts of the country the population of most of the species have diminished during the recent decades.
