Building a fixed transport connection from Vaasa to Umeå would make sense, write researchers Yrjö Myllylä and Jari Kaivo-oja. They believe that the Nordic Connector route would be a profitable investment and an engine for new regional development.
Road to the sea.
Construction of a fixed road connection between Riutunkari in Oulu and Huikku in Hailuoto has begun. There have also been talks of a fixed connection between Vaasa and Umeå.
Studies have been conducted on the Vaasa–Uumea road since the 1960s. The study is also included in Petteri Orpo's government program.
