Tiivistelmä
Digital transformation is essential to enhance education processes and achieve educational resilience. However, not all education digitalization projects succeed. In some cases, even if the project has been considered a success, the new tools and practices are abandoned due to the lack of maintenance and committed administrators. Thus, education digitalization projects are insufficient, but a supporting ecosystem is needed to ensure the sustainable digital transformation of education. In this study, we undertook action design research in two ongoing projects: one concentrating on digitalizing education in developing economies and the other on developing supporting activities for building education digital transformation ecosystems. Through our experiences and critical reflections, we found that getting not only schools (customers) and companies (business party) but government and academia committed is essential in ecosystem-building. For that, we recommend building the capacity of all stake-holders – government, schools, academia, the digitalization industry, NGOs, and venture capitalists – and utilize ecosystem-building tools such as the education digital transformation spiral and the capacity-building spiral supporting it.
