As technological innovations and digitization processes are transforming all levels of sport, it is only fitting to examine how these processes impact gender equality and equity. In this chapter, we introduce why studying women in today’s digitized sports cultures is important and why Nordic countries can be a relevant case for studying intersections of gender, communication technology, and media in sports from an interdisciplinary perspective. In addition to introducing this book’s topic and theme, we introduce the research behind this book and explain how the rest of this book is structured.
