Surprisingly little is known about targeted interventions taken by adults when they find out about ongoing bullying. We introduce a novel way to collect real-time intervention data with a mobile application, reflecting on its potential in bullying intervention research. The school professionals using the application are hand-led through several steps included in the intervention, until a follow-up meeting, and they document key information on each step. The data can be considered more ecologically valid than previous methods, such as teachers’ responses to hypothetical bullying incidents, their (or their students’) retrospective reports on how they’ve intervened when facing bullying, or descriptions of their “typical” lines of action when addressing bullying. We elaborate on the types of information that can be captured with this novel method and provide descriptive data based on its use over two consecutive years in Finnish primary, secondary, and combined schools (N=32) implementing the KiVa antibullying program.
