Robot-Assisted Language Learning (RALL) is a pedagogical approach that involves the use of social robots as interactive tools in native or non-native language learning contexts. Social robots are autonomous or semi-autonomous agents capable of multimodal interaction (Bartneck et al., 2020). This interaction can include, together with verbal communication, human-like non-verbal features such as gestures and body postures, or robot-specific features such as lights or sounds. Unlike computers or mobile phones, all social robots have a physical body, and can bear a resemblance to humans, mechanical toys, or animals. This embodiment creates a learning environment where language can be used in multimodal interaction and in contact with real-life objects.
