This study examines how the Algerian War and the experience of the Organisation Armée Secrète (OAS) influenced French and Italian far-right groups ideologically, operationally and geopolitically. The process of Algerian decolonization, which was seen by the European extreme right as a decline of the “civilizing” force of the continent and of the white man, causes significant transformations in the Italian and French extreme right. In the French case, we are witnessing the transition from a nationalist radicalism to a Westernist radicalism that identifies the United States as the macro subject that is most active in the battle against communism and for the defence of the supremacy of the white man. In France, there is a significant change of ideological paradigm and geopolitical direction in the far right. In Italy, on the other hand, the parliamentary and radical right have been Atlanticist and pro-American since their origins, and the Algerian War and the influence of the mythologization of the OAS determine more than an ideological change, a worsening of the terrorist practices of the Strategy of Tension.
