Tiivistelmä

Caribbean sexualities are frequently seen
as problematic and polarized. Partly because of this, literary expression has
shunned representations of the tabooed erotic intimacy of oral sex until the
literary anthology, Caribbean Erotic (2010,
Adisa & Weir-Soley eds). The anthology’s portrayals of oral sex through
positive affect are a tipping point in the changing discourse of oral sex in
Caribbean cultural production. The question of reimagining and re-signifying
Caribbean sexualities and sexual acts is, however, not just a question of
representation but interpretation, and neither is oral sex posited in affective
terms only about positive emotions but also about liberation as the affect of politics. A Felskian
postcritical reading of oral sex in the Caribbean context serves to claim that
new reparative (Sedgwick) intimacies emerge by reading through affect.
