Abstract

Modern gaming – especially in mobile platforms – has turned into a quagmire of questionable practices. This chapter takes a look into the ethical problems brought about by the increasing importance of monetisation in game design. We recognise five factors that are threatening the player’s game experience and argue how they constitute unethical behaviour on the part of game designers.
