In 2017, different organisations formed a consortium for a European Union Commission project named ‘Indoor hygiene SME’s Exports to the Middle East Construction Markets’ (IHMEC). The commission funded the consortium through the Interreg Central Baltic program and the European Regional Development Fund. The consortium consisted of a lead partner, scientific partners and private companies from Finland, Sweden and Estonia. The lead partner is a university, as are the scientific partners. The private companies represent a variety of industries, which include construction materials, architecture, building technology and services, interior design and furniture. They were working on a project that offered innovative health solutions for public areas. Each private company has its own finished solution that it could just modify to suit its customers’ needs and preferences. Thus, the project concept aimed to support these companies with a pool of indoor hygiene solutions from which customers could select to satisfy their needs. The solutions are related to all indoor elements, which consist of air, water and surfaces.
