Tiivistelmä
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into various areas of management has become a subject of growing interest. Various applications of generative AI potentially transform many types of business and managerial tasks in the future, possibly leading to deepened human–computer interactions and relationship between leadership and technology particularly with the combination of human and artificial intelligence. A yet-to-be-explored application area for generative AI in management is visionary leadership and strategic decision-making. Modern organizations and society at large urgently require visions for the future addressing complex challenges, offering alternative pathways, inspiring commitment, and empowering action, while enabling flexibility and adaptability. Recognizing the transformative potential of generative AI and the different aspects of visionary leadership, we explore the potential and application areas of generative AI for visionary leadership through a survey. We collected insights from 25 management, leadership, AI, and foresight experts to discover the potential and limitations of generative AI for the five domains of visionary leadership: (1) Vision Formulation, (2) Vision Communication, (3) Vision Integration, (4) Vision Realization, and (5) Vision Learning. The results suggest that Vision Communication and Vision Learning are the domains with the highest and Vision Formulation with the lowest potential for generative AI applications according to desirability and feasibility analyses. Previous studies of visionary leadership have not examined the role of technology, moreover the role of generative AI for visionary leadership. Thus, this pilot study can be viewed as an opening to this emerging research avenue, and an expansion to existing visionary leadership research.
