Generalizing to a certain degree, it can be said that the articles in this issue are largely about democracy and its practices in a Nordic childhood context. Inclusion, the right to be seen and heard, and the right to participate are the central aspects of the articles. I would particularly like to emphasize the methodology of the articles as an important contribution to this issue. In childhood research, it cannot be emphasized strongly enough that methodology is intertwined with the research topic. The research material in this issue has been gathered through interviews with adults, video recordings, and observation of authentic situations with children. The article on design is fascinating for its data: the artefacts produced by children. Collecting data requires a high level of research ethics. However, the process of interpretation is equally vulnerable. The articles show researchers’ sensitivity to interpreting children and childhood. Nevertheless, we are products of our culture, and we act as members of our culture in such a way that our observations about the environment are already interpretations. It is, therefore, important for researchers to be open about their own starting points and contexts. As the new editor of Barn, this issue caught my attention. In the Nordic countries, we live in a particular ethnocentric culture. Pernille Juhl, for example, points this out in her article. I would urge researchers to be even more critical in their self-reflection on culture.
