France is one of the pioneering countries in futures studies. We decided to dive into French futures studies by asking key French experts in the field for their views on the foundations, nature and development prospects of French futures studies. Naturally, the resulting image gives our questions an exciting cut and
illumination from the respondents’ point of view. This outlook does not, therefore, aim to be a comprehensive review of French futures studies, but a cavalcade of enlightened opinions of experts.3 We received responses to our survey conducted in French from the following experts: Thierry Gaudin, President of Prospective 2100, Hugues de Jouvenel, Director of Futuribles, Saphia Richou4, President of the French Node of the Millennium Project, Fabrice Roubelat, Unesco chair in Foresight and strategic international intelligence, – University of Poitiers, Anne Marchais-Roubelat, Associate Professor, Cnam-Lirsa5, and Jacques Theys, vice president of the Société Française de Prospective.
