Tiivistelmä

Wound care requires comprehensive and up-to-date competence from nursing professionals. To ensure that nursing professionals have the needed competence level to care for patients with wounds and that their competence is based on the latest evidence, clear and consistent competence areas, learning goals and content should be identified and implemented. The competence areas mean the themes in wound care that should be included in wound care education and the structure that guides the teaching. The learning goals mean what the student is expected to learn during their education or what they should be capable of, and the content represents the subjects (that should be) included in the teaching. The competence areas, learning goals and content help wound care educators and teachers plan and implement their wound care education into the nursing curriculum. With consistent competence areas, learning goals and content in European countries, wound care teaching can be unified and standardised. Based on the latest evidence, this chapter focuses on the competence areas, learning goals and content in European bachelor’s level nursing education.
