Conclusions and implications: These results suggest that (+/-)-efaroxan and phentolamine increase insulin secretion by inhibition of beta-cell alpha(2A)-adrenoceptors, and demonstrate a critical role for alpha(2A)-adrenoceptors in limiting sulphonylurea-induced hyperinsulinaemia and hypoglycaemia.
