Tiivistelmä
While programming as a theoretical concept and a general skill is universal, its application occurs in each socioeconomic, cultural or industrial context. Similarly, the education of programmers also happens in each context. While the international ICT business where programmers will work is international, the early stages of learning programming in a context very different from the Global North should recognize and use the learners’ backgrounds. Based on our work in Namibia, we propose a set of dimensions that help programming educators integrate the universal art of programming into a given context. The integration will not only support offshoring opportunities in Namibia and beyond in Africa but also aspire for more ambitious programming careers, for example, along the lines of African futurism.
