Abstract
The aim of this paper is to provide outline and classify means of transport used
in fairy tales. The select corpus on which the findings are based and from which
examples are borrowed includes different collections of Slavic tales for young
(elementary-school) readers. As a “control group”, fairy tales found in the Grimms’
Kinder- und Hausmärchen will also be consulted throughout the text. Utilizing a
structural approach (Propp, Apo), the main goal of the paper is to discern general
structural elements (specifically, means of transport) in the tales, rather than interpret
their concrete realizations.
