Abstract

There are many disciplines that are important for the future of healthcare and healthcare innovation. Design thinking is important because it enables better processes of innovation, thereby resulting in better solutions.

Design thinking can be applied in all stages over the maturation of an innovation. It promotes the recognition of existing structures, interests, and habitual ways of thinking, which makes driving change more profound and strategic. Healthcare makes use of an enormous and ever-expanding range of technologies. The relationship between humans and technologies is continually re-negotiated. Design sensibilities and methods can empower actors embedded in the complex and dynamic context of technology-driven healthcare innovation. The reader is encouraged into personal reflection on the insights provided on the pages of this book. It can turn theoretical knowledge into a skill of design thinking that is likely to face a growing demand in the future.
