Abstract
Cognitive Metaphor Theory sees metaphor as one of the central phenomena in our conceptualization. When discussing conceptual metaphors of time, the metaphor TIME IS A RESOURCE is often mentioned. It is widely assumed that this metaphor explains how we understand time in expressions such as время—деньги ‘time is money’, времени достаточно ‘there is enough time’ or дать время ‘to give time’. This article aims to clarify the concept of time as a resource by distinguishing an additional cognitive metaphor, namely TIME IS AN OBJECT. In examining the contrast between these two conceptual metaphors, the opposite metaphor TIME IS A SUBJECT is also considered.
