Abstract
The hydrolytic stability of RNA phosphodiester bonds exhibit even more marked variation within random single strands than within loops or bulges. Molecular dynamics calculations have been applied to the initial state and to the transition state model, i.e. a sequence containing a phosphorane intermediate, to evaluate base-stacking as a factor affecting the cleavage rate.
