European transport market was changed in the last twenty years. With the establishment of production facilities (automobile industry) in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe cargo flows from Adriatic ports are growing. The strategic goal of Adriatic ports is to become one of the most important gateway regions in Europe and to develop from a handling port into a logistic centre. Port of Koper (as one of Adriatic ports) is the most successful port with the highest throughput of containers and cars. Increase of traffic goes along with the concerns for the environment and new investments are part of the strategy to be a green port. One of the strategic orientations of port until 2030 is to be institutional stakeholder of sustainable development of natural and social environment.
In this paper we will present the investments in terminals and capacities that will allow this port to be green. We will also present the situation in Finland ports and the measurements applied there.
