The article deals with the travelogues of
the first Italian women travelers in Scandinavia between the end of the XIX and
the first years of the XX century. These women started from a a new nation,
where women were far from emancipating. In this paper the way their social role
affects their writing, especially in depicting male characters, is highlighted.
