Abstract
Reactions of UpU with dinuclear metal ion complexes have been studied. The complexes did not only efficiently promote the cleavage of the phosphodiester bond but, remarkably, catalysed the isomerisation of the diester. This implies that the reaction involves the formation of a sufficiently long-lived phosphorane intermediate which can pseudorotate.
