Tiivistelmä

This chapter describes an integrative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning process focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The process was implemented in a Finnish preprimary group using the NaCra (Narratives and Crafts) approach, which combines arts-based learning practices in early childhood, preprimary, and primary education. The learning process involved various activities both in the outdoor environment and at school, such as drawing, multisensory workshops, observing plant growth, creating a soundscape, earth art, and a robot, as well as word art. The activities followed a similar structure, including motivation, orientation, assignment, and reflection. The results showed that the children were more engaged in learning due to the versatility of the process, daily activities, and opportunities to share their thoughts. The arts activities helped connect children's interests and thoughts to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The chapter relates to the expected outcomes of SDG4, which include quality preprimary education, literacy and numeracy, comprehensive education for sustainable development, and teacher qualifications.
