Abstract

The introduction to Engagements with Hybridity in Literature: An Introduction outlines the ways in which hybridity – as a process of hybridization rather than a product – has become a fashionable buzzword in literary, cultural, and social studies. We give first a historical overview of the term, followed by introductions to the essential thinkers and theories. We explain the significance of hybridity in the world today and the reasons for specifically engaging with the concept in literary studies. It is crucial to continue the discussion about mixing – hybridity, which remains relevant. In conclusion, we present the structure of the book.
