Nursing informatics competencies are defined as the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform specific informatics tasks; however, it also includes values, attitudes, critical thinking and clinical decision-making. Information technology adoption in healthcare would be limited and unskilled without standards and competencies. Ensuring nursing informatics competencies on different levels in the healthcare setting is a key strategy in safe care provision, building knowledge and development of care. However, informatics education, requirements and competencies for nurses differ globally. The following chapter describes nursing informatics competencies in different scenarios and the importance of implementing them.
