1. What PISA tells :Korean students are not happy
According to student survey of PISA 2012, it appeared that both Korean and Finnish students ,who were ranked on top for the recent 10 years in PISA, are not happy in their school life.
2.What PISA does not tell openly
How does OECD report the PISA 2012 results? OECD reports excellent achievements of East-Asian students, however, there is no mention on excessive educational fever and competition in these countries. Will PISA 2012 results be utilized whether to support Scandic parents or East-Asain tiger moms? How will the OECD-PISA reports and interpretations influence national education policies? These are interesting but worrying points.
3.What PISA does not tell: intrinsic limits of PISA and all other standardized tests
Is it possible to measure adolescents' academic growth and development only by using standardized test items? What is the influence of comparison and rank driven by standardized measurement? Is knowledge which is not transpered to economic values not necessary for young generation?
It is carefully expected that OECD will empower East-Asain educational model for a while. It also seems that STEM(science, techonology, engineering and mathematics) and online-based teaching-learning methods will be spotlighted more and more.
What is the reason for being of knowledge and schooling? This is the question what PISA 2012 asks to us with huge data and analyses.
