Summary: This project examines fluency and disfluency in spoken language from a multidisciplinary perspective. The project combines the theoretical frameworks and methods of second language acquisition and psycholinguistics. The research team, composed of scholars from these fields, aims to clarify the nature of fluency and the factors influencing it using a diverse set of data (including cognitive experiments, spoken samples, and survey data). The project aims to reconceptualize the concept of second language fluency and the factors that influence it. Key areas of focus include the impact of different tasks (monologue and dialogue) and the speaker’s personal characteristics (cognitive processes, perceived anxiety, and first language fluency) on second language fluency. The results can be applied in language learning and teaching, language proficiency testing, and, for example, the development of digital mobile learning applications. The publications can be found on the project website: https://sites.utu.fi/flowlang/projects/fdf2/
