Summary: Tämä monitieteinen hanke tutkii Suomen alueen eläin- ja kasvilajistoa historian-, kulttuurin- ja kielentutkimuksen keinoin. Se tuo esiin sanoma- ja aikakauslehtiin kätkettyjä havaintoja erilaisista lajeista 1800-luvulta 1970-luvulle, joista tieteellisessä ja julkisessa keskustelussa ei ole ollut aiemmin tietoa. Tutkimalla näitä havaintoja, hanke uudistaa käsityksen Suomen lajistosta ja tuottaa aiempaa kokonaisvaltaisempaa tietoa lajien esiintymisestä Suomen alueella tutkijoille, eri organisaatioille ja laajalle yleisölle.

Additional info: The project studies the fauna and flora of the Finnish region through historical, cultural and linguistic research. It brings to light sightings of different species from the 19th century to the 1970s, hidden in newspapers and magazines, which have not been previously known in a natural scientific and public context. The aim of the project is to renew the understanding of Finnish biodiversity and to provide researchers, organisations and the general public with more comprehensive information on the occurrence of species in Finland. The project is funded by the Alfred Kordelin Foundation and has received funding from the Foundation’s Major Cultural Projects funding programme.
