I worked at the University of Turku mainly in teaching positions from 1986 onwards. Since my retirement in 2022, I have focuced on research.

My doctoral thesis "The collective soul or the individualist? The identity processes of left-wing intellectuals in Finland from the early 1930s to the end of the 1950s" (THPTS) was completed in 2024. I have also published several articles on the topic. I continue to be interested in the cultural history of leftist writers and journalists, but also more broadly in questions related to authorship and being a journalist in the early 20th-century Finland. Currently, for example, I am interested in why people with little education became enthusiastic about reading and writing and began to strive to become professional wordsmiths.
