Political philosophies of competitive fiscal federalism

Jussi Jaakkola works as a postdoctoral fellow at the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS). Before joining TIAS, Jaakkola worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Law. He holds LLD and LLM in law and MA in humanities (comparative literature).

Jussi Jaakkola's research project Political Philosophies of Competitive Fiscal Federalism addresses how traditions of political thought have theorised the international order of competitive fiscal federalism and which political functions they have ascribed to competition among states. Making sense of how the contradiction between democracy and capitalism resurfaces under the conditions of competitive fiscal federalism is at the core of his research.

Jussi Jaakkola’s teaching focuses on fiscal and economic integration in the European Union.
