Researcher and teacher in University of Turku, departments of Biology and Biochemistry, since 1989.
My basic research focuses on the light reactions of photosynthesis, and photoinhibition of Photosystem II has long been my favorite topic. Recently I have also worked with plastoquinone. I have been active in use and development of various biophysical research methods, including chlorophyll fluorescence and thermoluminescence. In addition to basic research, I have applied research on automatic identification of agricultural plants and weeds with various methods including chlorophyll fluorescence and drone photography. I have also worked on the practical use of algae in wastewater purification.
I teach both basic plant biology and biochemistry and advanced courses of plant biology and biophysics.
