racist discourse, anti-racism, discourse studies, language and power

I am a functional linguist, activist and cyclist from Turku. In my spare time I eat too much of potato chips and I read too little.

I am interested in how racism is realized through language, especially in media like the news, but I am also interested in how language shapes our understanding of race and racism. My research sits between media studies, systemic functional linguistics, racial and ethnic studies and critical discourse studies.

In my dissertation I examine the various ways Asian Americans are represented through language in news texts.
