DigiSOS - Addressing technology-facilitated abuse in social services and healthcare / ISEDA - Innovative Solutions to Eliminate Domestic Abuse

I work as a project researcher in the DigiSOS project. The research examines technology-facilitated abuse as part of domestic violence encountered and addressed in social and healthcare services. This is a joint project together with the University of Turku, Tampere University and University of Jyväskylä. The project founding was granted by The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

I also work as a researcher in the Horizon Europe project ISEDA (Innovative Solutions to Eliminate Domestic Abuse). The project aims to combat and eliminate domestic violence by employing an enriched European approach, utilizing modern technological tools and practices and improved multi-sectoral expertise. The ISEDA project contributes to the establishment of the necessary robust long-lasting structures to eliminate domestic violence. The consortium, coordinated by the Cologne Game Lab from the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, brings together partners (civil society organizations, academic partners, police authorities, and private companies) from nine european countries. The main role of Tampere University is leading the development of policy recommendations. Additionally, our team is involved in scoping of the pilot sites’ ecosystems and specification of ISEDA solutions, as well as the development and implementation of awareness raising campaigns and education programs on the project.

Prior to this, I have worked as a project researcher in the Impacts of the coronavirus epidemic on experiences of domestic violence and the use of services (KOVÄ) project, which was a joint project with The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Tampere University, and the University of Turku. The objective of the study was to examine what kind of impacts the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictive measures related to it had on the occurrence of domestic violence, insecurity, guidance to services and restrictions on the availability of the services. The research project included cooperation with the Finnish National Crime Victim Survey. Additional appropriation was granted by Parliament for investigating the social impacts of the coronavirus epidemic.

I have a master’s degree both in sociology and social work. Currently, I am preparing a doctoral dissertation in the field of social policy. My research interests are domestic violence, welfare service system, and digitalisation of services.
