Environmental Ethics for the Solar System
I'm currently a TIAS Postdoctoral Fellow (2025-2028), working on my project Environmental Ethics for the Solar System. The aim of the project is to lay the philosophical groundwork for rigorous, systematic, and multidisciplinary discussion on how humanity should treat the rest of the accessible Solar System, provide tools for designing sustainable space regulation, and support argumentation for space diplomacy. The research is in the fields of environmental philosophy and space ethics. The overarching questions addressed in the project include 1) what kind of environmental values diverse space environments of the Solar System possess, 2) what kind of sustainability issues and limits there are to treating those environments as resources, and 3) what kind of ways of managing those resources are justified.
I also serve as the Director of the Turku Environmental Ethics Research Center (TEERC).
I have taught environmental ethics, philosophical methods, and moral philosophy in the philosophy unit, and sustainable development in Turku School of Economics.
