Sachal Hussain is a biomedical researcher currently working as a Senior Researcher in the SYS-LIFE project at University of Turku. His research focuses on cardiac image analysis, particularly the assessment and quantification of structural and functional alterations associated with atrial fibrillation using advanced medical imaging and computational approaches.
He completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of Bologna, Italy, where his research involved the development of a framework for quantifying patient-specific left atrial wall motion using dynamic cardiac CT imaging data. His work combined medical image segmentation, image registration, computational modeling, and quantitative analysis to evaluate the impact of atrial fibrillation on left atrial mechanics.
Prior to this, he completed his MS in Biomedical Engineering from Mines Saint-Etienne, France, focusing on the development of brain phantom models for medical 3D printing using MRI datasets. He has also worked on patient-specific silicone aorta phantom development using CT-based 3D reconstruction and additive manufacturing techniques.
His research interests lie at the intersection of medical imaging, computational modeling, and medical 3D printing, with a strong emphasis on translational and clinically applicable biomedical technologies. During his research career, he had academic and research exposure in Spain, Germany, and Norway.
His current research focuses on computational analysis of cardiac imaging data for evaluating atrial remodeling and left atrial appendage morphology in patients with atrial fibrillation. I am particularly interested in combining quantitative imaging biomarkers with machine learning algorithms to improve automated characterization, risk stratification, and clinical decision support.
Sachal Hussain has taught undergraduate biomedical engineering courses as an Assistant Professor in Biomedical engineering department. His teaching activities have included both theoretical and practical components, with emphasis on engineering applications in healthcare and medical technologies.
