My doctoral dissertation is focused on investigating the decadent aesthetics present in post-World War II Japanese literature, particularly in relation to the earlier European and especially French literary discourses surrounding the concept of decadence during the late 19th century. My aim is to analyze how the themes of cultural decay manifest in different cultural and historical contexts and to compare and contrast the different approaches taken towards decadence within the realms of European and Japanese literature.
