Contemporary art; plant art; new materialisms; posthumanism
My research focuses on living plants and their agency in the field of contemporary art. To be more precise, I am interested in artworks that make plant agency visible or otherwise perceptible for humans. I refer to this type of art, where plants take part in the formation of artworks, how they turn out and how they can be percieved, as plant art. In my research I ask, how can plants affect human experiencers through art and therefore suggest more equal, sustainable and livable futures for both plants and people. In other words, what kind of a transformative potential lies in plant art?
Theoretically my work is situated at the intersection of posthumanist theories, new materialist art research and phenomenology. It also connects to environmental humanities and critical plant studies.
